I feel like I will be thinking about this memoir for a long time. Kristen Rademacher has a way with words that wrapped me up in her perspective and held me there. Reading this book was an altering experience for me. Rademacher's courage and strength in the face of such a devastating and insurmountable loss was both harrowing and heartwarming to read about. Her writing was magic and I felt a real sense of closeness to her as I made my way through the book, even as she described her isolation from everyone around her.

How often have you asked yourself if I can only be the fly on the wall listening and discovering the inner workings transpiring in the White House? Well, you don’t have to stick around very long. Pick up a copy of John Bolton’s The Room Where It Happened: A White House Memoir. One caveat, the 494-page narrative, is not a quick read.

    Author: Mary L. Trump, PH.D.

    Publisher: Simon &Schuster

    ISBN: 978-1-9821-4146-2

Writing a bombshell of a book where you hang out to dry your family's dirty laundry for all to see comes with its challenges. And this is the troublesome situation that Mary L. Trump found herself in with Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created The World's Most Dangerous Man.

These demands include conducting comprehensive research, recalling events during which you were not present, reconstructing dialogue, intimate conversations with family members, friends, neighbors, and associates. Assembling these into a compelling narrative is no simple accomplishment. Yet, the author pulled it off without putting me to sleep.

Bookpleasures.com welcomes as our guest, Geraldine Brown Giomblanco, author of Geraldina & the Compass Rose: One Woman's Faith-Filled Journey To Find Love. A Memoir.

Geraldine, in addition to being an author, is a motivational speaker. She is also a former Vice President, General Manager and thirty-year veteran of marketing for high-profile shopping centers. She left the corporate world to help others find their "true north" paths in life and bring those dreams to fruition. Born and raised in New York, she now makes her home on the Connecticut and Long Island NY shorelines.

There have been dozens of books authored by second-generation children of Holocaust survivors that have been trying to make sense of their backgrounds by delving into the horrendous past experiences of their parents.

This has proven to be no easy feat as their parents, uncles and other relatives often erect a wall of silence about their experiences and just want to forget about it. Very often these survivors grumble to their children, it is better that you not know about it or you have no right to ask me about it. They even go so far as castigating their children and mention to them that it is nonsense that they should have a part of their history, since their lives were separate.

Perhaps, this is a way for these parents to cope with the past? Unfortunately, within a few years we will no longer be able to have personal access to these remaining survivors as there are less than 360,00 that remain alive today and about one thousand die each month.

Curiosity got the better of me when I picked up a copy of Omarosa Manigault Newman's Unhinged:An Insider's Account of the Trump White House.

My initial thought concerning Omarosa had been was how could an intelligent woman be taken in by the cult of the Trump world? Did she sell herself to the devil in the hope that she could really make a difference helping the African-American community? Was she overestimating her importance? Was she taken in by the glitter of power and wealth? Was she overambitious?

Dukla is a small town in southeastern Poland on the Jasiolka river at the foot of Cergowa mountain. It has a population of about 2,200 people, a 17th century town hall, the ruins of a 1758 synagogue, the ruins of a 16th century border tax office, the ruins of a brewery. In 1944, the Battle of the Dukla Pass left 90 percent of the town in ruins. In 1997, Pope John Paul II visited and in his sermon mentioned John of Dukla, one of the patron saints of Poland and Lithuania.

Ronny Herman de Jong's Rising from the Shadow of the Sun: A Story of Love, Survival and Joy blends historical fact with a vivid personal journal that was given to the author in 1985 by her mother, Jeannette (Netty) Louwerse after her grandparents had died in 1985. The narrative is set during World War II in Java, which at the time was a part of the Dutch East Indies.

In 2007 Cheryl Pallant accepted an offer as Visiting Lecturer at Keimyung University in Daegu, South Korea. She had "no images of its landscape and architecture, no familiarity with its language, people, history, or culture" other than that American soldiers fought against communism there in the 1950s. Pallant, in the middle of a divorce after a 15-year marriage, was moving from Richmond, Virginia, population 223,000 to Daegu, a city of 2.5 million people in south-central Korea. Ginseng Tango is a memoir of her year there.
