Welcome to Fawn Malero's
Seattle, where magic fills the air and centuries old alliances are
still kept.
Courtney Davis' book, Supernatural P.I. (The Fawn Malero Mysteries Book 2),' is a fantastic paranormal mystery/romance with a compelling and fun protagonist, and brilliant world building. I have read a lot of books in this genre, but never one quite like this before.
Fawn Malero is a private investigator who lives in a world populated by people like her—that is, supernaturals.
Fawn's family are all
magicians, a group of supernaturals that hold a variety of powers.
Fawn, herself, has the ability to communicate with animals, some
healing capabilities, super-bendability and an enhanced drive to help
other supernaturals.
The last one is very important to her in her job as a P.I., and it's a good thing that it is, because the supernatural beings of her city need a lot of help.
In this book, Fawn discovers that a stone that originally belonged to Poseidon was stolen from the sea shifters. She is asked to help find Poseidon's stone, only to be led to a greedy human who is using it to help with his fishing haul.
Additionally, Fawn is asked to help a new vampire in town find his daughter. This investigation is complicated by Fawn's strange attraction to this vampire and the friction that this creates in her relationship with her boyfriend, Logan, who also happens to be a werewolf.
I really enjoyed the cast of characters in this one. I think my favorite character was probably Betina, the teenage troll, or Evie, the judgmental ghost that lives in Fawn's apartment.
Davis' writing in this is impeccable, and I enjoyed the way that she balanced the mystery, romance and comedy aspects of the novel. I also loved the way this one ended, but I won't go into that for fear of spoiling things! This was what all paranormal mysteries should be!
