“Starting a blog is one of the easiest ways
out there to start a website. If you haven’t started one yet, why
not try it? It can be very quick to set up and is sometimes
completely free,” Bob Lotich writes in his book, How to Make Money
Blogging: How I Replaced My Day Job with My Blog.
At sixty-two
pages, this small recently revised paperback targets those interested
in learning to blog and make money doing it. Having an income by
posting on his website, the author gives specific tips, instructions,
and beginner’s directions to set up and maintain a blog.
After
a note from the writer stating the book is direct and to the point,
there are twelve short chapters that include numbered notes and an
easy-to-understand format. A few black and white computer pictures
and charts are added with no index or advertisements for other
products.
Wanting originally to blog Bible verses from
Proverbs daily, Lotich set up his domain and site but it took a year
and a half to start making a decent amount of money from it. This
little book is a guideline that lists how to find a domain, get web
hosting, and log in and install WordPress.
Mentioning the
basics along with websites and costs ranging from $3.96 to $29 a
month, he promotes a self-hosted blog being the best answer to
produce an income. By listing what companies work and why, lots of
legwork for the new blogger is completed already.
The author
suggests buying a customized theme as money can be earned through
cost-per-click networks, affiliate programs, and direct ad sales.
Having consistency and willingness are the two key ingredients but
producing profits take time and effort.
To get traffic to the
blog, he offers ideas such as commenting on other blogs, guest
posting, using community sites, joining directories, and
participating in forums while linking and writing articles. Search
engine optimization is also discussed.
With seven simple
website tools that prove profitable, Lotich used Adsense to glean
$1500 in less than three months. While this is not a fortune, it
shows that anyone can start a simple blog and make money through
promotion.
Offering several websites, costs, recommendations
and including his discount codes, this is a well-written, quick study
in starting a blog that may be pivotal to generating an income using
the internet.
Thanks to the author for furnishing this
complimentary book in exchange for a review based on the reader’s
opinions.
