The Secrets of Car Flipping by Cleveland Williams is a slim book packed with tips and strategies for buying and selling used automobiles. There's no needless fluff here. Every page guides the reader through the process of buying and selling for profit in the multi-billion dollar business of used cars.

I found the book to be a quick and easy read. Here is some of what you get:

* A little-known secret for locating good used cars. (p. 5)

* How to determine how much to offer a seller.  The Kelley Blue Book lists many different possible values for each car, and Williams tells you how to find the ideal starting point. (p. 7)

* When to walk away and never look back. (p. 16)

* Six questions to ask the owner that put you in the driver's seat for negotiations. (p. 19)

* Common mistakes to avoid after the deal is made. (Vital to avoid financial loss!) (p. 24 - 29)

* How to price a car you want to sell. (p. 36)

* Dressing your car for the sale. (This is not the same as cleaning the car.) (p. 38)

* The best place to advertise your auto when you want to sell fast. (p. 42)

* Negotiating and finalizing your sale.

In addition, there are handy checklists for both the selling and buying side of the transaction.  One of my favorite parts of the book are the actual written ads that Williams wrote to successfully sell his own cars. These make great templates. Readers can customize these for their own vehicle.

Personally, I would have liked to read more of Williams' success stories. He said even his wife, who is not a car-gal, used his method to turn a car for profit. I would have enjoyed reading the specifics of her transaction: what type of car was it, who bought it, what was her profit, etc. But that’s me: I like stories.

In an economy where many are out of work, flipping cars seems like a practical way to make some extra cash. Williams says turning one transaction per month is doable for almost anyone. But The Secrets of Car Flipping  is also pertinent for anyone who is buying a used car for personal use. I'll be keeping this one on my bookshelf for future reference.

Cleveland Williams has over 15 years' experience in the used car business as well as in flipping cars for personal profit.
