I think I have read most, if not all, of the Koa Kane detective series written by Robert McCaw and loved each one. Detective Kane is the main character with many sub characters that always appear as regulars in the series. Koa Kane is a principled man who has a deep and abiding love for family and friends. He also possesses a keen sense of purpose and can feel when anything is the slightest bit off, which always helps him to solve these tough mysteries.
Koa has one dark secret, which I will not reveal. It haunts him from time to time and deepens his ability to do good and right. His brother Ikaika is his Achilles heel. For quite a while, ikaika was in and out of jail and prison and has finally found love and a good job. He has been fingered for murder and it is up to Koa to clear him, if possible, and find the person or people responsible for this crime. Can he clear his brother’s name and find who did this?
During Koa’s investigation of this murder, it becomes abundantly clear that the evidence against Ikaika is circumstantial and best. Koa smells foul play. However, because of Ikaika’s sordid past, he may not get a jury to see that he has changed and could never have committed this heinous crime.
Koa pools all of his resources to save his brother from another stint in prison. His team is eager to clear Ikaika too. As the investigation marches onward, people close to Koa are caught up in terrible accidents that are not an accident at all, but a way for someone to get to, and rid of, Koa. Who wants to get back at Koa? Can Koa learn who before the time to seal this murder falls upon Ikaika’s face?
Read it. I could, seriously, hardly put it down. It has so many twists and turns that you begin to wonder who is the perp.
