Selkies are a race of mythical creatures that can change into seals on a whim. This may sound like a strange prospect to someone who has never heard of them, but it is a well-known tale in Scotland, where the urban legend originates from. Particularly, this is a common tale in the Hebrides islands off the coast of Scotland, where many people make their living from the sea and where Ella Rose's 'The Selkie Seas,' stories are set. More specifically, the stories are set on an island called Selblaine in the year 1861.

In this book, which is the second in the series, the main character, Lyall faces an overwhelming problem. See, Lyall only recently found out that her parents, Prion and Leannan, are selkies. In fact, Prion is not just any selkie, but a banished prince of the Liath clan.

Hot on the heels of finding out this information, Lyall also discovers that her father is dying of a human disease that can only be cured by using his selkie skin to transform. Unfortunately, Prion's selkie skin was damaged many years earlier by a rival siren.

So, Lyall does the only thing she can think to do, she uses her own selkie skin to migrate with the rest of the Liath clan so that she might contact the Great Elder, a wise sage who may be able to repair her father's skin.

The only problem with this idea is that Lyall has never transformed using her selkie skin before, and the transformation comes with issues that she did not expect. Luckily, the royal protector Ceannas, is there to help. That is, once he realizes just who this new white seal is and what exactly her plan is, as well.

This is a fantastic read! Lyall and Ceannas are such a cute couple and they really seemed to care about each other so much. I am so excited for the next book in this series! The writing is beautiful and the characters and world building are magical.
