Only Evita was missing, and I felt a longing for her ardent temper, her vivacious gestures, and electric intensity-- a longing beyond adoration. I wanted to be like her.” – 'Evita and Me,' Erika Rummel.

The story of a young girl, a beloved historical figure and the pact that bound them forever. Mona Ford is a young woman living in Toronto with her absentee mother when she receives the opportunity of a lifetime-- a chance to spend two weeks in Argentina with a family friend.

Though she is initially reluctant, (she barely even remembers this family friend, Liliana) Mona agrees to go on to the trip, if only to avoid her mother and her new boyfriend for a few weeks.

When she arrives in Buenos Aires, Mona discovers that although she likes the place, she despises Liliana, who seems to be a money-hungry, adulterous flake. But friendship with Liliana does have one benefit-- it is through her that Mona is introduced to Eva Peron, known by the people of Argentina simply as Evita.

Evita is the president's wife, and a political figure who is beloved by the people of her country for her kindness and compassion. Everyday, Evita meets with any of her citizens who requests an audience and helps them as best she can.

Mona adores Evita just as everyone does, and soon becomes close confidants with the woman who brings her on a tour of Europe.

However, before the tour can reach it's end, Mona notices that Evita seems to be losing strength and that her health seems to be waning.

Also, Evita soon asks Mona to accomplish a secret task-- something that Mona will have to continue to keep secret even after she finds out that the woman has died.

This historical fiction novel is as riveting as it is addictive! I could not put it down and read into the wee hours!
