Two women come up to her and Rhys while having coffee hoping or claiming they want their jobs restored but the feeling you get when listening to them is chilling.

As Rhys realizes she needs to go home and rest after dealing with the Sheriff and his officer’, her whole world is invaded and turned upside down. Dropping her off at her apartment he notices something, and her entire life and safety are in jeopardy. Her space was overturned, ransacked and she falls apart as author Lori Matthews sets the stage for what is about to come. As Scarlett is the target of some dangerous pet but first the truth about other break-in’s and incidents are brought to light by the officer working with the Sheriff. Rhys then calls in a team from the Brotherhood Protectors of the world and it is revealed that the incidents happening are all related to the murder and the money the doctor took from the Retreat. Someone wants it and short of another murder, namely Scarlett’s this person or persons will stop at nothing until they get what they think she might have at the retreat.

Things escalate even further when someone else breaks into the Retreat after the money. Too many people have lost either their businesses or money for other reasons and since the former manager embezzled so much just where could the money be and who else is so desperate they would try to gaslight Scarlett.

Feelings come into play and she and Rhys realize they might have something special, but he still blames himself for what happened when he got shot and thought he lost his edge. But, protecting her gave him back what he thought he lost and sometimes the bad might bring something good. But now it is up to him to decide where he wants to be and if he wants to stay in Canyon Springs, deal with the frigid weather or go back to where he was before. Added in his family is wonderful but he claims overwhelming at times just what will he decide?
Sheriff Wells and Officer Striker are dealing with the break-in but when Rhys goes off with them Scarlett finds an unwell guest at the Retreat and someone who is more than desperate for money and will do more than just threaten her if she does not hand it over. Scarlett cannot believe what she sees but she is smart and hopefully Rhys will come to her rescue before person slits her throat with a knife.

The project is about over, and the owner of the Diner might want her to change some of the battle-scarred seats and tables as she realizes that she needs another project, but she is now faced to face with a desperate killer. Desperation does many things, but Scarlett just wants her design business to soar and really help the people in this town. The team that helped with the work at the Retreat did a great job and now she must determine what is next but first she must

deal with a desperate killer. Just why did this person come after her? How will she get out her the clutches? An ending that will shock readers and one woman named Scarlett Jones that will not let anyone take away what she has finally found.

Characters that are strong, true to live and well-crafted and hope we see more of them as the series continues and The Brotherhood Protectors World continues to take on the protection of those that are in danger. What’ next? Hope we find out soon.
