But it was God who won the battle, God who did the heavy lifting. That is what we as parents must never forget. We can do so little to effect change in our children’s lives. But God can do everything,” Kathi Lipp writes her book, I Need Some Help Here! Hope for When Your Kids Don’t Go According to Plan.

At one hundred and seventy-six pages, this paperback targets parents of children, both young and adult, who have relationship issues. With some slang, the topics of drug use, premarital sex, and adult situations may not be appropriate for immature readers. Using mainly the New International Version of the Bible, also the NASB and NLT editions are referenced. This reader wishes all pronouns of God were capitalized for reverence.

After acknowledgments and an introduction, the book has the author’s personal experiences as well as her close friends and others spread throughout twelve chapters, ending with final thoughts and notes.

Focusing mainly on Moses in the Bible, Lipp explains how resting and relying on God has helped her and her husband get through their kids’ problems as they relate to drugs, depression, and attempted suicide. Amidst the pain and sadness, she has turned bitterness and anger into gifts of grace, faith, forgiveness, and gratitude.

Having peace during uncontrollable circumstances, she touts being a member of the Bad Moms Club, where friends confide and trust in each other to pray, guide, and listen to each other’s problems dealing with children. Knowing no child is perfect, mothers need to fight the guilt, stop the worry and shame, and recognize God is in control of every situation, good or bad.

Chapters include parents feeling desperate when their kids are different, overwhelmed, troubled, sick, injured, making poor choices, running away from God, lacking character, struggling, or feeling left out. By recognizing the Lord’s hand in the issue, He can be the Provider, Controller, Refuge, Comforter, Rock, Shepherd, Encourager, Peace, and Omnipresent One. In addition to offering practical steps to take, prayers for the child and parent with Bible verses are at the end of each discussion.

Although parents experience different complications raising children, all need to come to the conclusion that God has a purpose in our lives, no matter how hard and confusing the situation can be. Lipp offers valid Biblical support to aid the frustrated, worried mother or father and equip them with focusing and trusting more in God.
