“I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.

He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock,

and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise

unto our God; many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.

Psalm 40:1-3

It is two o’clock a.m. and the phone rings. Your heart starts to race because there must be a problem. It is not normal for the phone to be ringing this early in the morning. The voice on the other end gives you news that can ultimately change your whole life. Not only would your life be changed, it would be in utter turmoil. How strong is your faith? Would you be able to hold steadfast to your belief that God holds all power and that he will see you through any raging storm?

Just ask Author Jackie Carpenter how she was able to hold steadfast to her faith in God while her son, Jason, sat in a cell praying for his freedom. The Bridge: Between “Cell Block A” and a “Miracle” is: Psalm 91 is a powerful testimony of a family’s claim on the promises found in chapter 91 of the book of Psalm. In 2008 Jason Veitch, a preacher and homebuilder from a small town in Georgia, was arrested and charged with felony murder in the accidental death of a suspected burglar at one of his construction sites.

Many homes under construction were being stripped of their copper piping. Under the advisement of certain officials, Jason devises a plan to catch the thieves in order to put an end to the mental and economical strain the burglaries were causing his company. As he sat in the midst of the trees surrounding the house, he is nervous and praying that no thieves will show up. Just when he thinks the coast is clear, his fears come to pass, and he finds himself having to make a difficult decision. The decision he makes turns out to be one that will take away the one thing that he can rightfully claim as his own; his freedom.

An accidental shooting takes Jason and his family through a horrific nightmare that does not seem to have a good ending. Being charged with one count of felony murder, three counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm during commission of a felony, he stands to face years in jail away from his family…away from his young son.

This is very inspirational story. Normally I steer away from non-fiction but something about this book title drew me in. It is clear that Jackie Carpenter is not a seasoned author, and the story does not flow like many of the books that I have read. However, that element makes this a great story. It feels real and unrehearsed. It is one woman’s lyrical journey through the pain and heartache that she and her family endured. It is a testimony of how her love and faith in God brought her family through that difficult time. It is a testimony of her miracle.
