Dr. Walter E. Jacobson's Forgive To Win: End Self-Sabotage. Get Everything You Want resonates with a basket full of insightful advice that for some of us may even sound familiar, provided we were fortunate enough to be raised by wise and caring parents. If you had such luck, you may remember when you were told to act like a good and decent person or as the Yiddish expression goes, be a mensch. And as Dr. Jacobson hammers home, this is not only good for the soul but also an effective antidote to combat sabotaging ourselves. Incidentally, the French have a similar expression when they state that il faut agir comme il faut.
According to Dr. Jacobson, when we sabotage ourselves we prevent ourselves from attaining success and prosperity. This destructive behavior expresses itself in a variety of ways such as blaming others or on our own bad luck. We don't heed the advice of the English poet William Ernest Henley who stated: “I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.”
To
help us generate success and prosperity, Dr. Jacobson has devised
The Forgiveness Diet, which
he describes as a structured program that trains our mind to engage
in behaviors that will benefit us in the long run. As he further
explains, it is a daily regimen of thoughts, actions and exercises
that are devoted to extending unconditional forgiveness, acceptance
and love. Consequently, we get our subconscious mind to work with us
rather than against us to attract and manifest everything we have
ever wanted. It boils down to getting into the habit of performing
daily estimable acts of kindness and service to others.
You are probably saying, “yeah sure, this is easier said than done!” Dr. Jacobson agrees that old habits die hard, however, he challenges his readers to try the “Forgive To Win 90-day Challenge” esteeming others, forgiving them their trespasses. There is very little downside and you may even feel better about yourself after you have tried the diet.
The principles of Forgive To Win are jammed packed within six chapters, the first four of which provide readers with the essential tools to help deal with our reluctance and resistance to engage in estimable acts, while the last two guide readers in implementing proper behavioral patterns.
For
starters, Dr. Jacobson presents us with an inventory of examples of
self-loathing and self sabotage acts where our thoughts create our
experiences. We are reminded that it is our subconscious that is the
driving force directing our destiny and putting obstacles in our
paths towards our success or failure. How often has a little voice in
us whisper that we shouldn't try something, it will never work or it
will surely go wrong, do something else, it is a waste of time, and
why even bother? And when you listen to the little voice, you are
self-sabotaging.
When we understand our self-destructive behavior, it is then necessary to move on to esteem ourselves and love ourselves instead. This is no easy feat, as it entails demonstrating to our self-conscious mind that we are in fact a caring and passionate person, generous with our time, our energy and resources. Dr. Jacobson urges us to assist others in need and best we can, putting our own needs aside and expecting nothing in return.
And once we recognize the tools that will help us deal with our resistance to engaging in estimable acts and forgiving others, we must learn how to go forth and put into action behaviors that will serve us in attaining our goal and deliver the results we desire. This is the basis for the creation of the Forgiveness Diet that must be practiced on a daily basis to reap maximum beneficial results.
Dr. Jacobson has written an instructive and commonsense book that effectively succeeds in creating a concise, comprehensible guide with harmonious advice that will be of practical use to anyone who is interested in achieving happiness, well-being and material success. No doubt, most of us would like to put an end to our self-sabotage acts, the problem is that we don't know how to go about it, or how to cultivate happiness in our lives. Here is where the Forgiveness Diet comes into play wherein it covers a huge subject adopting a very sage approach that is different from the usual cheerleading method often prevalent in books of a similar nature. It is a book that makes readers sit up and reappraise their behavioral patterns and perhaps even take action.
