Did you have an imaginary friend when you were a child? Well take a vacation to the Witt’s End Resort, and visit with Jane and her twin sister Sadie. Sadie Witt has many imaginary friends; at least that’s what the children of the community whisper about her. Some of the adults think she’s just plain loony. Author Beth Solheim has created a magnificent mystery series that will have readers coming back for more.

Sadie, the ostentatious sixty-four year old funeral assistant works hard at her job in the mortuary, but that’s not all she does. She also works hard as a death coach, providing guidance to those who have passed on but have yet to cross over into the afterlife because of unfinished business. She also has a protégé that is a death coach. Young Aanders, the son of Nan the mortuary owner, has aided Sadie in her job and also to solve a few mysteries. Sadie’s twin sister Jane is co-owner of the Witt’s End Resort and often criticizes her sister’s choice of attire and urges her to dress her age. For me Jane’s character kept a humorous momentum throughout the story from sanitizing her favorite chair that was once occupied by a bare rear ended ghost named Jed, to the vivid comparisons of Sadie’s hair colors to flamingos and skunks. I can’t leave out the persistent Belly. Belly is the stray dog that seemingly belongs to neighbors but has made a home with Sadie and her sister at the Resort. Belly uncovers a piece of evidence that will ultimately solve a mystery that has been lingering and haunting the citizens of the small community for over fifteen years.

Throughout the pages of the book, Solheim reveals the colorful experiences of the day to day around the resort. Although there are a few storylines going on, they all fit nicely together and spell one word, MYSTERY. This is not a book that I would normally pick up and read but I’m certainly glad I did. It has thrilling suspense, humor and a quality movie plot. Yes that right, this would make a great movie. Not only will this book keep you intrigued and guessing, but you'll also find yourself belting out a few hardy laughs as well. Outwitted by Beth Solheim is filled with charm and unforgettable characters. This novel captures the reader’s attention and keeps them turning the pages. I highly recommend this book for those who love humor and a good mystery.
