Author: Kelly Sokol,
The main character of this book is a young girl by the name of Marleigh. She is trying to forge a better life for herself and also hold together her grandfathers flailing boxing gym. Both of her parents have fallen prey to alcoholism and are of no help or support for her. She works a few hours at the gym while attending classes at the local community college.
A young handsome man by the name of Jace appears on the scene. He is in the Navy and not going to be a long-time resident in this place, but as soon as he sets his eyes on Marleigh nothing is the same.
The gym is on the precipice of failing when Marleigh’s grandfather, who was suffering from Alzheimer’s suddenly dies. Her drunken parent’s step in when the will leaves the entire gym to Marleigh. They want her to sell and give them some, or all, of the money. Jace is a godsend.
Marleigh devises some ways to generate some money to save the gym from certain foreclosure. Again, her parents are hot on her heels.
Eventually, Marleigh and Jace break away from her past and she joins his past and future. His family except for his nasty mother, are so unlike hers, warm, supportive, and welcoming. Marleigh finds peace and comfort in them and their steadfast ways. Jace wants nothing more than to spend the rest of his life with Marleigh and to continue to keep his mother at bay. Will she marry him and start a new life? Won’t she? Time is certain to tell.
Who doesn’t have a past? And who cannot enjoy reading about a brand-new future that is filled with love and hope? I enjoyed reading this book and believe you will too.
