Getting in the news? That isn’t in and of itself a problem. I See Your Name Everywhere: Leverage the Power of the Media to Grow Your Fame, Wealth and Success by Pam Lontos and Andrea Brunais can go a long way to getting you there. These two authors prove that they are very well versed industry professionals who take us by the hands and show us how to get in print.

There are massive amounts of media out there both offline and online that need a constant flow of news. The issue is how to get them to take notice of you. This is the cornerstone of I See Your Name Everywhere. Pam and Andrea start out by explaining exactly what is in the mind of reporters and bloggers who want fresh sources for the news. The authors describe what editors, reporters and in some cases bloggers, go through each day in weeding out the wheat from the chaff in figuring out what their readers would like to see. In many cases this means more than a phone call but also even the whole news story. And this book shows what the spin should be.

I See Your Name Everywhere is full of helpful tips and pointers about getting noticed but I was very happy to see Pam Lontos and Andrea Brunais covering the cardinal rule of press releases: Make the story about the reader and not about the writer. This has worked for me so well in the past and has vastly increased my own exposure in the media.

The authors also rightfully spend time devoted to the importance of getting the message out to bloggers on the internet. If the news media picks up your story it is only a matter of time before these people get interested. As such you would want them on your side and in your camp when they write about you. They need an open channel to you and you should offer it to them first. They also were quite open about other more “stealth” ways to get in the news such as OpEds, letters to the editor, calendar event entries, etc. All of these are really overlooked methods of getting your name out there. On top of that the authors warn against ignoring smaller publications and industry publications at your own peril and sighted several cases where these media outlets led to national and international recognition.

I personally have started to use many of the tricks learned in this book. I also have been around enough to know that this is not a quick fix. Promoting yourself takes time. The authors themselves say it takes seeing a name seven times or more to build brand recognition with most people. The point is to follow their advice. Come up with a plan and stick with it. I have read loads of books on the PR subject, but I must say that I See Your Name Everywhere: Leverage the Power of the Media to Grow Your Fame, Wealth and Success by Pam Lontos and Andrea Brunais was one of the most enjoyable instruction books that I have read in a long time.
