An appealing story about a small frog, named Cecil, from Costa Rica that is teased because of his size.  Cecil learns to smile from a cameraman that has strolled into the forest and shared with Cecil why smiling is important.  The book has a happy ending.

The author/ illustrator Charlotte Bucher, is a Colorado native.  She began writing at the age of 16 when she wrote a weekly column for her hometown newspaper. She graduated from the University of Denver with a degree in business and an emphasis on advertising.  She is enriched by four children and four grandchildren.  She now plans to combine her two lifelong interests by writing and illustrating children’s books.  Cecil is her first.

Cecil is appropriate for the age group intended and would also be a great book for an older child to read to a younger sibling. The illustrations are made in water colors and make certain that the book is visually appealing to the age group, or anyone that might read it.

The book is a little pricey for the twenty-one pages but with water color illustrations, it is within the range expected.
