A hit and run accident
start the chain of events that will take two people on a roller
coaster ride filled with more bumps, curves and ripples before all is
said and done. Dani Pierce witnesses a hit and run of someone who
could be her double. Realizing it was meant for her she could not
stand by and deal with the police, finding her way back to her garage
apartment the owner sees her and wonders what is wrong. Knowing she
did not want to alarm her she manages to get to her apartment and
realizes something is wrong. Ransacked and things stolen mainly a USB
drive Dani realizes it is time to leave before her elderly landlord
is hurt.
Dani is a hacker working for Drake and her job is to create a new and better software for facial recognition. Hackers can invade websites and businesses unseen and who she borrows the software from will send her and others on a quest to find out who is behind what happened at her apartment and who is after her now.
A knock on her door and a strange man claiming to be there to protect her. Dani chose Juneau, Alaska thinking no one would find her there. Gabe Callahan is the man hired to get her safe, but Mrs. Williams has a shotgun aimed at him if he dares to harm her. The scene is priceless, and Dani finally convinces her it is okay as he leads her out and they must figure out an escape. A storm is coming, and all planes are grounded and boats too . Do using his contacts he is able to book passage on a ship and poor Dani is I will even before she boards. Seasickness is awful and yet there’s no choice and as soon as they stop arguing and board things get tense, the fear in her eyes and the descriptions of how the ship makes her react is so vividly described that the reader can empathize with her .
Gage has an attraction to her clouding his judgment at times and she is holding back important information needed to keep them both safe. Within this plot there are two subplots. Dani is hoping to use the facial recognition software she created to find her sister Carly’s birth parents before it is too late. Gage promised his mother he would look after his brothers and keep them safe.
Dealing with Dani and her moods leaves him stumped at times and Dani finds herself confrontational. Her seasickness does hamper her moods and getting things done but when going to eat alone in one of the restaurants on the ship while Gage is in the gym she sees some men that she recognizes and realizes they found them somehow. Using her thinking skills, she enlists then aid of an elderly woman who brilliantly creates a diversion for her to get away. Lies are revealed, truths about what she was hired to do and where she stole the base software and how and from who brings down the wrath of Gage and his brothers.
Phone calls made, truths coming out to a point and Drake must face that someone in his company is a mole and leaking information and wants the software that she has created. But can he keep her safe on a ship where these men know where she is and can she convince someone working there to fix their identities and get them entrance to a new cabin and new names.
Money talks so to speak
and she transfer quite a bit into an account for this guy’s mother
into his account, but will it remain there or was it a ruse to get
him to help them? The events on the ship alert you to the fact
that some dangerous men are aboard and placing Dani and Gage in their
crosshairs along with Jeremy. Getting off the ship took some trickery
and with the help of Dottie and her two friends you will not believe
how they pulled it off. But the Chinese were not the ones after her
it was a more deadly group and Drake’s business was under
investigation, but the reason was someone close to him who wanted him
out of the way.
When Gage gets captured, his brothers hoping to set
him free, Dottie is taken too Dani is frantic and the only way to get
them is to give these men the software. The scenes on the ship are
tense, but when she gets to Vancouver she has to find her own way
hoping Gage and his two brothers will protect her but the situation
is out of control and her only concern is Carly. Will she get to the
hospital in time to keep her word? Will she pass before she has a
chance to say goodbye?
Author Lori Matthews takes us deep inside
the mind of Dani, explores her fears and fear of water and her inner
turmoil because of her apparent love for Gage. The two butt heads,
the danger is apparent, and her only way out is the water will she
take it? When Gage is hurt by men who kidnapped him and Dottie is a
prisoner to the scene is full of twists and one huge shocking
surprise when they learn who the mole is and why all of these murders
and attacks were happening.
The final scene will allow you to know whether the facial recognition software works and if Dani can use it to find who she was looking for and keep a promise to Carly.
Lives are at stake, two people are in deeper than they thought possible and her hacking skills need to be more than up to par in order to redeem herself, understand where she wants to be and try and atone for the of the HIT AND RUN!
