Firewall is Eugenia Lovett West’s forth novel. (2019, p.341) The first (The Ancestors Cry Out) was published by Doubleday and the following two (Without Warning, Overkill) by St. Martin’s Press. She is the daughter of a priest and former Yale Chaplin. Eugenia grew up in Boston and now resides between Essex, Connecticut and Holderness, New Hampshire. She is a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College. To learn more about her please visit her website.

There are a few critical characters in Firewall. Emma is the most prominent. She is a widow and has two college aged sons. Caroline is the godmother to Emma and depends a lot on her. Rodale is a man that Emma met and began an affair with but isn’t sure how it will work out in the long term. Rodale works for the English SS and travels the globe. He has invited her to a beach retreat when things go suddenly awry.

Caroline has summoned Emma to NYC because she has a serious threat and requires her level head to conclude it. Emma hopes she can help Caroline and make it to the beach with Rodale, but that is not in the cards. Caroline confides that she is being blackmailed and she is worth millions. Emma tries to follow the loophole filled trail to see if she can figure out the blackmailer.

As it ends up this blackmail thingie leads Emma into a very dangerous worldwide cybercriminal rabbit hole that is hard to extricate herself from. She flies from NYC to some of the most exotic places in Europe. She meets people with oodles of money and a lot to lose in this caper. Their influence brings her closer and closer to the perps. However, they (the perps) appear to be one step ahead of Emma and are quite efficient in thwarting her best efforts. The deeper she digs the more bodies pile up.

Will Emma get to the end of this mystery? What will become of her and Rodale? Will Caroline find who is behind her blackmail? Read it and see.

I truly enjoyed this book and believe you will too.
