    Bookpleasures.com welcomes as our guest playwright and novelist, Susan Rubin. Susan has been writing plays for over twenty years and her work has been performed in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Baltimore, and Cuba. Her works have been produced at the New York Theater Workshop, Baltimore Center Stage, the Los Angeles Theatre Center, where she was in residence for 6 years, and LA’s Bootleg and Circle X theaters.

    Susan has written nine fully produced plays winning recognition from the Los Angeles Times and LA Weekly and prestigious Garland and Ovation awards, and she received 20 years of support and commissions from the Los Angeles County Arts Commission and the Cultural Affairs Department of Los Angeles.

    She has also written twenty-five documentaries, seen by thousands on college campuses and through screenings by organizations (and at the White House Commission on the Status of Women), on topics like domestic violence, early and forced marriage, untested rape kits and women’s reproductive rights and other feminist subjects. Susan has also written for Funny or Die.


    Her debut novel, The Road Not Taken has recently been published.



    Bookpleasures.com welcomes as our guest author, poet, and screenwriter, Barry Gifford. Barry's work includes the novel Wild at Heart, which was adapted by David Lynch into a Palme d’Or-winning film, and Sailor and Lula.

    He has authored dozens of other screenplays, novels and books of poetry and essays.

    He has recently published Roy's World: Stories 1973-2020, a collection of Barry's most acclaimed short stories that show America from a different vantage point, a certain mix of innocence and worldliness.

    Joy holds a dual-genre MFA in Writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts. She previously earned a Master’s degree in the Liberal Arts from St. John’s College, famous for its Great Books curriculum, and she has a BA in English from the University of Oregon. Prior to joining the festival, she was the Journalism Educator at the Andrew P. Stewart Center’s after-school studio program that serves the children of Atlanta’s Pittsburgh neighborhood. She has lived in Decatur with her husband and two daughters since 2006.

Billy is the co-author and star of the Off-Broadway plays You've Got Hate Mail, Silent Laughter, Drop Dead!, and 21 other theatrical plays written with Jane Milmore, including A Night at the Nutcracker, Wrong Window, and summer stock perennial Love, Sex, and the I.R.S.

    He also wrote The Property Known as Garland starring Adrienne Barbeau that broke house records at Off-Broadway’s Actors Playhouse.

She has taught at Tufts, Boston, and American Universities and written scholarly articles and delivered papers at Renaissance Conferences in Italy and the U.S., among them at the Frick Collection of Art, the Corcoran Museum of Art, and the Smithsonian Resident Associates Program.

    Nancy has been a member of SCBWI since 2009. 

    She is the author of two  award-winning, Sci/Fi Fantasy Middle Grade novels: The Crystal Navigator (named as one of the best middle grade books of 2014 by the National Education Association, and Mona Lisa's Ghost, (winner of an Eric Hoffer Book Award,) and The Gravity Thief

Diana is a Seattle-based licensed marriage & family therapist and board-certified sex therapist specializing in sexual and relationship issues, who has been providing talk therapy to individuals and couples for more than thirty years.     Bookpleasures.com welcomes as our guest Sara Winokur. Sara is a geneticist, researcher, and author of the mystery thriller Double Blind: The Icelandic Manuscript Murders. 

    She has a master’s degree in cytogenetics and a Ph.D. in molecular genetics. She has worked on DNA analysis of human genetic diseases and was part of the team that discovered the genes associated with Dwarfism, Muscular Dystrophy, and Huntington’s Disease. 

    Dozens of her articles have been published in scientific journals. Her research has appeared in Human Molecular Genetics, Nature Genetics, and Cell Stem Cell. 

    According to her website, eight years ago, after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer, Sara took a step back from research to focus on her health. She took the opportunity to reinvent herself by combining her passion for science with her love of reading and writing crime and historical fiction.

    When asked about what her readers can expect from her novel, she revealed that her audience will be met with suspense, a learning experience, and thought-provoking writing. Sara is now cancer free.

Greg was well-known on the small-press scene in the 1970’s where his poems and stories appeared in dozens of literary publications. A collection of his work, Sit Down Have a Beer, was published in 1977 by Realities Library in San Diego, California. A graduate of Northeastern University in Boston, Greg retired in 2015 to resume his writing after the wireless communications company he co-founded was  purchased by a competitor. Greg and his wife Barbara live in Houston, Texas. When Life Was Like a Cucumber is Greg’s first novel.

A teacher with 40 years of experience, Lisa taught English, TV Production, Technology, and Digital Literacy and most recently worked as a Library Media Specialist.

    She is the author of Engendering Judaism, the first book by a female theologian to win a National Jewish Book Award for Jewish Thought. She has recently published Tales of the Holy Mysticat: Jewish Wisdom Stories by a Feline Mystic.

    Rabbi Adler has a PhD in Religion and Social Ethics from the University of Southern California, rabbinical ordination from Hebrew Union College.

    In her freshman year at CalTech in 1982, Jenna was the only undergraduate African American woman on campus.  At the time, the overall ratio of male students to female students was 7 to 1.  Her sophomore year saw 4 more incoming freshman African American young women, and that was roughly 10 percent of the incoming women students. She later began a career in Silicon Valley at a time when it was virtually an all-male environment.

    Colette's play Sister Cities has been produced around the country and internationally, including Paris (Une Ville, Une Soeur), Rome (Le Quattro Sorelle) and Australia. She also wrote the novel and the film which stars Jacki Weaver and can currently be seen on Netflix.

    Colette co-wrote, with International bestselling novelist Jackie Collins, the play Jackie Collins Hollywood Lies.  In collaboration with New York Times best selling author Michael Scott, she wrote the thriller The Thirteen Hallows (Tor/Macmillan).

In 1987 he became Division Vice President of a major U.S. news operation in Latin America. He was in Argentina when the Army revolted later that year and Venezuela during the attempted coup by Lt.
