There is a great deal of writing for a picture book which would encourage disinterest.  If reading this to children, I would suggest that it be broken apart, such as in a chapter book, and talking about the parts, characters and themes contained in the story.

I shared this book with a first grade class, a third grade class and a fourth grader.  The general consensus was that it was one of the best books they had very heard/read.  They all wanted me to leave the book with them to read again!
