This book is a great read for everyone, skinny and thin.  It isn’t a book just about weight loss; it is a book about facing your demons and surviving

Author: Wanda St. Hilaire
ISBN: 978-1-4401-3294-0
Publisher: IUniverse

I enjoyed the book but it was slightly confusing.  It was written as a letter to an old friend and Wanda refers to people and events that Monique must know but the reader doesn’t understand.  I also would have liked to have more details about the country itself, but it is an interesting read and I do recommend it

The evolution of the book is jagged, more and more violent, and full of surprise.  We are scared, astonished, and wondering what else they going to do, especially Junior.  This book leaves you with a lot of questions about the future of the characters in mind

In general, this book has potential but fails to reach the mark of an interesting read

I greatly enjoyed this book.  I loved the daily prayers which were simple, perfect, and a wonderful way to connect to God before the start of each lesson.  So many times we forget our daily prayers and the very small one in the book often leads to more discussion with God.

The Bible in all its splendor is not without its doubters. Many wonder if the true message has made it down to us in an unaltered form over these thousands of years. What if the truth was radically different, so different it contested the Bible at every turn? This is what readers face in The Night is Long.

Sometimes a book comes along that changes the reader’s life.  Occasionally its for the bad, but most of the time it is a positive change.  Something written in the book reaches out and touches the soul of the reader.  For me, Voice of the Mountain was one of those books.

Fables have been a time honored way to teach both children and adults.  Since Aesop, those witty stories with both wise and foolish animals making the same mistakes humans make have both entertained and enlightened.  The stories of Cisco the parrot in the book, Viva Cisco, are an excellent addition to the genre.

In today’s global market, people are losing their jobs at the rate of hundreds a day as the recession grinds along.  Each time, families are left scrambling to try to pay the bills.  That is not a very funny issue, but Larry Solomon has taken the depressing and lightened it up a bit.  He himself spent some time unemployed and this work is based a little on his experiences, but mostly on fiction.

Evolution is an issue that causes everyone to jump on their soapbox.  Some people believe that it is totally true and anyone else is crazy.  Others believe that God created the world and anyone who says otherwise is a heretic. The rest of us straddle the fence, unable to decide and not wanting to offend the two militant parties.

What is the American dream?  To many of us it represents wealth and comfort, but in the 1870’s, it often meant simply having food for the children and a good roof over the whole family’s head.  This book, American Anthem, is actually three books in one.  The books tell about the lives of three immigrant families, how they lived, and how they finally meet up together and help each other achieve the American dream.

Most modern Americans believe the Indians were peaceful savages who lived an ideal life with nature that was destroyed by the white folk.  To some extent, they did fit into that picture. There can be no doubt of the horrible decimation of the Native Americans by the Europeans who took their land, dignity, and very lives.  But, there was also a darker side to the placid natives.

For most of us, the beginnings of Islam is a great mystery. We understand that it is based on the teachings of Muhammad, but we know little of the man himself. This book is the story of his rise from a few believers to the great Muslim empire.
