An electrifying historical
fiction/time travel novel from the husband and wife writing duo known
as Elyse Douglas.
What would you do if one night you were suddenly sent back in time to the 1920's with no explanation and no idea where you were? This is a question that the main character of this story, Roxie Raines must answer when this exact thing happens to her.
Roxie is a singer, and one night after picking up a temporary gig at a 1920's-themed bar called Speakeasy, she finds herself stumbling down into the basement, looking for an intruder. While Roxie doesn't find the intruder, she does find a portal to another world-- the world of 1925 New York, where gangsters rule the land and alcohol is illegal under prohibition laws.
Dazed and confused upon her arrival, Roxie is alarmed to find that the bar she knew in the future is now being run by a notorious gangster who intends to hold her hostage until he can discover where she came from.
Meanwhile a private detective named Jake Kane is busy trying to solve the case of a rich woman's possibly cheating husband when he discovers a postcard written by Roxie, begging for help, trailing down from the towering Hotel Decon to the street below.
After initially being reluctant to believe the missive, Jake soon meets Roxie himself and the two feel an immediate attraction and connection to each other. But will Roxie be able to return to her own time? This is a question you're going to have to read the book to find out the answer to. And you won't regret it!
The writing in this novel is superb and the historical accuracy and atmosphere are both perfectly researched. 'Speakeasy,' is a treat for time travel lovers and romance lovers everywhere!
