Gisela Hausmann, author of The Funnel Factor, hails from Austria and is a graduate of the University of Vienna with a Master’s degree in Film and Mass Media. (2017, p.163) She worked in that industry for six years and has won many awards for her writing. Gisela has authored eight books in a variety of genres and topics and traveled on three continents. Currently she resides in Greenville, South Carolina with her two cats, Artemis and Yin-Yang. To learn more about her please log on to her website at www.giselahausmann.com.

Gisela opens with how much “the box” has changed. When people tell you to think outside of the box Gisela says what they do not tell you is “…that all of the boxes are getting bigger and that it’s much harder to think of ideas outside your specific box.”. (2017, p.11) Furthermore, “…to succeed, authors need to “create a funnel”.

“There are two ways to go about things in life. You can focus on the problems…or focus on the opportunities.” (2017, p.19) Advice is to “Stay clear of the “Negative Funnel”.” (p.21) “…every successful effort will nurture your inner spirit because success drives success.” This cannot be stated enough in my opinion.

Goodreads is one writer site that Gisela likes and tells authors exactly how to use it to maximize their efforts to sell books. Facebook is another required social media website that authors need to have a presence on. Hausmann has added tips for your success on these sites, as well as, what you can do online and live to generate book sales.

Next, Gisela talks about the various pitches; seasonal, television, holidays or events. There is keen insight into what works best and how to go about getting that attention. Then, how to work with magazines and where to find free public relations or guest blogging spots as an author. She also says that it is important to “monitor your books media coverage”. (2017, p.72)

This book is literally jam packed with advice and exact roadmaps about how to go about every facet of getting your book in front of the most potential readers to generate books sales. Gisela has covered about every angle that I could possibly consider and then some. So if you want to sell your book this is a bedside book that is a must read. I enjoyed it and believe that it can, and will, help authors, new and old, to create more success.
