Every once in a while a children’s book unequivocably grabs your attention The first time you set your eyes on the book cover, you fall in love with Sylvie. Who is Sylvie? A human being, a cat, a dog? No, she’s a pink flamingo.

Her mama says she is pink because she eats pink shrimps. She decides to experiment with other foods and becomes like a chameleon. She turns brown when she eats chocolate ice cream or green  when she eats a palm leaf, or a delightful shade of purple when she eats grapes, etc. etc…  In the end, she goes back to her own shade of happy pink.

The illustrations are very amusing and colorful. The writing is just as enjoyable! Kudos to Jennifer Sattler for such an entertaining little book.

Sylvie is for children between the ages of 4-8, however, adults will likewise delight in this charming book, especially if they are called Sylvie!

Jennifer Sattler is a graduate from the University of New Hampshire where she obtained her BFA in painting and she later went onto
graduate with an MFA from Indiana University, Bloomington, Hope School of Fine Arts. For several years she worked as a landscape painter and professor of painting and drawing. Her art work has been extensively exhibited, winning a National Endowment for the Arts Grant in 1996.
