Did you know all the amazing stuff that can happen in a minute? For instance, it only took me a minute to know I wanted to read this book!
Steve and Matthew Murrie, who authored of Guide to the Planet (Series Planet Earth), have crafted Every Minute On Earth - a brilliant reference guide which teaches us all of those wonderful things that do and can happen in sixty seconds.
Did you know that ten adult elephants can produce 1 pound of poop per minute? Some of these fun facts really did disgust but astonish me all at the same time. I wonder what effects they will have on you?
As I read on I actually discovered I was learning so much about not just the strange and surreal but also about our little planet Earth. I certainly was astonished that so many earthquakes can happen in just one minute. Is this Earth’s way of dealing with our carbon footprints? It wouldn’t surprise me, since our cars produce 1.6 ounces of gasoline while idling for one minute. And perhaps even more shocking is the amount of waste we are throwing out. Tons and tons of it is thrown away every sixty seconds and yet most of us don’t batt an eyelid.
I was disgusted to learn the rate of trees that are being chopped down every minute. Where will it all end is what you have to ask? Is someone going to stand up and make a point? Will we all ultimately die because of ourselves and our inability to be more considerate to this Earth?
This book teaches all of us, from young kids to mature adults, we need to stand and fight to protect our wildlife and forests before it is too late.
On brighter notes there are some other really interesting facts including the the book. Did you know there is actually a spacecraft carrying a gold record? This little craft, known as Voyager 1, is currently travelling many, many miles out into space. It is astonishing to learn just how many miles it can cover during that time in one minute. Just think if any aliens or beings find it travelling through the universe, they will be able to discover the sounds and images we know back on Earth. Sound strange? Read this for yourself to get the fuller picture.
Every person needs a copy of this in their library. Even having this book in schools or colleges would be a great idea. It lists everything from Earth facts to the human body, animals and all that fits in between. How many things can you learn in a minute? This educational book is so fascinating, it makes learning easy.
A really good title to own. Perfect for your kids and those of you who say you don’t like reading - you’ll be staggered at how addictive Every Minute on Earth is!
And what’s more you can read nearly every page in this book in under a minute....perhaps that fact should be included too?!
I loved this and couldn’t put it down. I even finished it in less then three hours….is that a new record?
