There are many equal characters when this book opens; Annie, Malcolm, Patrick, and Jonathan. Annie is a young woman who wants to find adventure. She travels to England and begins working for Malcolm. This situation is both good and bad as you will find out as you read.
Malcolm is a womanizer and is married. He also fancies Annie. She does not entirely resist because he is her employer and she travels with he and his wife to exotic places in Europe. Annie realizes that Malcolm’s wife is having an affair and believes that perhaps his attraction to her is because his wife is rebuffing him. She indulges him and finds the suitor of Malcolm’s wife quite attractive and enthralling. His name is Patrick and he is a photographer/artist of sorts with a string of saucy lovers and maybe even regrets.
Midway into a trip Malcolm dies and Annie decides to embark on an adventure with Patrick that leaves her forever wondering whether things could have worked out betwixt the two. On this adventure she meets Jonathan, a young and handsome doctor. They begin their own adventure and eventually go back to the US, marry, and have children.
Annie loves light and begins a successful business as an artist light builder that makes her good highly sought out. Her industry is unique and enduring lamps and lighting fixtures. She is an artist of sorts too. She loves to create items that are wonderful and whimsical. She has made a good business out of this talent.
When a sudden automobile accident leaves Jonathan and Annie’s son in a coma strange pictures from Annie’s past creep up and haunt her. Annie gets a client in the UK who he invites her to create a one-of-a kind fixture for his gallery. She consults with Jonathan and he encourages her to pursue this venture. She travels back to the UK to construct this one-of-a-kind fixture and relives many fond memories of decades gone by. She becomes melancholy. Her last day in the UK she seeks out Patrick to see what his life has become. This single event becomes her undoing.
I will not tell the readers what transpires after this event, but they can learn what happens by picking up their copy of this enjoyable book. It is a fun summer read!
