Whether you’re standing face-to-face with a Mongolian death worm or stuck outdoors during a bataclysm, we have you covered,” Andrew Shaffer emphatically states in his book, How to Survive a Sharknado and Other Unnatural Disasters.

At two hundred and twenty-two pages, this small but highly important paperback targets those worried individuals who want to be sure what to do to survive when the end-of-the-world comes (or comes close to it). With some minor profanity, lots of gory information about blood, body parts, and death, it may not be apropos for wee ones who have recently learned to read or the elderly with weak hearts.

Written by humorist Shaffer with contributions by Finley “Fin” Shepard, a champion surfer, and sharknado survivor, April Wexler, the book begins with a foreword and introduction, followed by two sections of unnatural disasters and monsters, and ending with a final note along with educational appendices.

To view the instruction manual from a technical standpoint, there are thirty-five potential disasters listed, each six to four pages long, complete with a sketch of the perpetrator. Each chapter begins with an area listing vitals such as when first observed, maximum speed, groups at risk, and location along with iconic scale symbols of its threat, encounter risk, and factor of freakiness. The guts of the chapters are divided into three titled parts: Study showing documented incidents, Avoid explaining common pitfalls, and Survive for tips. Also added are sidebars regarding the devastating object with comparison charts, informational facts, food recipes, and quizzes.

With most concepts devised from SyFy Original Movies, one can learn about Mother Nature and Earth’s devious devices such as an antdemic, beeclispse, dinonami, firenado, stonado, and swamp volcano or gruesome creatures such as Basilisk, Mothman, Rock Monster, Elektrokraken, Pteracuda, or Robocroc to name a few.

Since we know disasters are inevitable and will happen no matter what we do, say, or pretend, we should be prepared for survival anytime one strikes. Applying a scientific yet unrealistic approach to the next attack by nature or beast, the emergency kits for the unnatural disaster or car are promoted.

Although this non-sci-fi reader began to consider these events could potentially happen in the next thirty seconds, she has peace and newly acquired understanding what she is up against and how to survive. Thank you, Shaffer and team, for bringing these tips to stay alive, protecting those that fight back.

Thanks to Blogging for Books for furnishing this really strange book in exchange for a review based on the reader’s opinions.
