Tom Gauthier has done an outstanding job with this edge-of-your-seat thriller. The ending will totally blow you away. During World War 11 the Americans have developed a remarkable piece of equipment that has the possibilities to end the war with Germany. But with coded messages flying fast and furious across numerous continents and oceans, the secret of the secret weapon is out and the race is on to save and to capture the golden wand—Orion’s Eye. Such names are dropped as Otto Hauptmann, Heinrich Himmler, and one we all have grown to know and hate—Adolph Hitler. Along with these well-known names, are numerous not-so-well-known, but none the less, great American heroes of this terrible war—Captain Edward M. Bonfoey (1st Fighter Control Squadron), Sergeant Arthur L. Jeter (Technical Sergeant), Donovan I. Gauthier (among other services, Third Mate aboard the SS Cape San Juan). Many other heroes were also aboard the ill-fated SS Cape San Juan when it was sunk in the South Pacific in 1943 by an enemy submarine. Tom has listed many of these soldiers and sailors in his book.

As the Germans fail on previous attempts to acquire the coveted Orion’s Eye, Otto Hauptmann plans his own secret mission to capture the prize and win the respect of his superior, Adolf Hitler. He has a planted spy—an American Officer—on the SS Cape San Jaun who is passing information to him at every turn made by the American organizations that have grouped together to protect this most valuable piece of equipment. Although the Americans suspect a spy is in their midst, they are racing the clock to discover who it is and reveal his identity before all is lost.

The unexpected ending of this great work is a delightful touch of intrigue and mystery.

You will have to read the book if you want to know the depth to which this writer can take you. Don’t pass this one up as it is a truly great read.
