Your child hates to go to sleep? Is it always a struggle? Ocean’s Child is the answer to turbulence. The authors, Christine ford and Trish Holland, and specially the illustrator, David Diaz, have created a soothing, calming story that will enchant even the most tumultuous child and his nervous caregivers.
Diaz’s colorful illustrations take the reader to a make believe paradise where everything calms down after a day’s work.

The authors and illustrator take us on a lullaby through the Arctic with an Inuit mother and her child, saying good night to the ocean’s many animals. Mother and child see a baby otter being rocked to sleep; a whale napping on his mother’s back; baby puffins seeking a warmth under their mother’s wing; and young sea lions snuggling on a rock beach – all under the eerie glow of the gorgeous northern lights. My favorite page is when “the Northern Lights shimmer and dance as we glide to Ocean’s shore”. Diaz’s illustrations are stunning! It is no wonder that he received in 1995 the Caldecott Medal for Smoky Night, by Eve Bunting.

With rhythmic language of free verse, and part refrain, paired with luminescent illustrations, Ocean’s Child will rock the youngest of readers to sleep as the book coos:

Good night, little baby, good night.”

Ford and Holland both live in Texas with their families. They first met in a writers’ group and then collaborated on the successful Golden Book The Soldiers’ Night Before Christmas (2006). Ford is also the author of the middle grade novel Scout (2006) and Holland has written two Little Golden Books: Lasso the Moon (2005) and Come Back Zack! (2008)
