The truth is, God could turn your situation around overnight, but sometimes it’s more important for you to undergo a turnaround in your character, your faith, or your heart attitude,” Danette Joy Crawford writes in her book, Total Turnaround – 12 Keys to Breakthrough in Every Area of Your Life.

At two hundred and seventy-two pages, this paperback book targets those who want get back on track in their lives, especially in regard to their relationship with God. After a foreword by Carmen Licciardello, twelve chapters dissect the concept of a turnaround. With NIV, NKJV, KJV, and AMP versions of the Bible referenced, many verses and stories weave throughout each chapter.

After an introduction explaining that the timing of turnarounds are in God’s hands and not ours, the author focuses on twelve key areas: prayer life, spiritual state, mind-set, emotions, self-image, marriage, relationships, teenagers, finances, health, perspective, and overall.

Each chapter first explains the area that needs to be turned around and why, backing it up with Biblical characters and their experiences or the writer’s memories. All Bible verses are written out and italicized for easy identification. The chapters end with a bi-line including several points for the reader to ponder, along with more Scripture to meditate on or memorize.

Discussing both Old and New Testament individuals such as Abraham, Moses, Esther, Ruth, Joseph, Jonah, Elijah, Jeremiah, Nehemiah, Paul, and Jesus, the author reiterates how they turned their lives around when they sought God and obeyed His voice.

Without mentioning too many of her own struggles, the evangelist/speaker/TV host divulges her past turnarounds being a single parent, tithing, healed illnesses, a brother’s passing, and an accident; all where God got her attention.

One example for a needed turnaround is the chapter on self-image. By uprooting rejection, learning to recognize perception deception, knowing who you are in Christ, remembering the real enemy, using the right weapons, ignoring disparaging words, and refusing to adopt the issues of others; one can walk free from a poor self-opinion.

Knowing that it is by Christ’s redemption and grace we are saved, we should be challenged to submit and listen to His will. Even though we may not understand the timing or reasons, a turnaround will produce major changes in our lives for the better.

As a good book for a women’s Bible study, it hones in on aspects of our lives where we should “let go and let God,” producing a turnaround toward Him.
