By bringing a little confetti to an otherwise ordinary day, we can make it a celebration. A celebration of life, of each other, and, most importantly, of God’s goodness,” Karen Ehman and Glynnis Whitwer write in their book, Everyday Confetti – Your Year-Round Guide to Celebrating Holidays and Special Occasions.

At one hundred and ninety-two pages, this paperback targets mainly mothers or parents with school-aged children that enjoy celebrating special occasions year round. Using the NIV, AMP, ESV, NASB, and NLT versions of the Bible, they blend verses, prayers, and Christian themes into the holidays.

After a dedication, acknowledgements, and foreword, the book’s twelve chapters are divided into two parts: everyday celebrations and holidays throughout the year. With no pictures or photographs throughout, the ending has the authors’ biographies, information about Proverbs 31 Ministries, and four pages of other books published by Revell.

The first section on celebrating life’s special highlights covers everyday joys, birthdays, spiritual milestones, writing notes, and reaching out to others. Some ideas include a special colored plate used for the special honoree, plastic writeable table cloths for annual birthdays, prayer shawls, and a recipe for cinnamon cappuccino muffins to make for the needy.

The extensive second part covers seven chapters based on the yearly holidays: winter, February, springtime, other spring events, summertime, autumn, and the Thanksgiving and Christmas season.

With more concentration on the days Americans celebrate, the traditional ones are listed. Also included are less remembered days such as Backwards Day, Shrove Tuesday, May Day, Mystery Day, Book Lover’s Day, See You at the Poll Day, and Harvest Celebration.

Counting over two hundred activities and projects requiring or being orchestrated by adults or their supervision, most chapters and special days start with a connection to the Bible. Sometimes verses are in small boxes within the pages. Green-highlighted personal stories with tips and ideas are inserted from the authors and other members of Proverbs 31 Ministries.

As recipes being the main focus throughout the book, having no index listing them or the holidays takes more time to look up or flip through the pages. With women pressed for time raising a family, this may slow the reader down, taking the time to browse the many connections to God.

This book was furnished by The Book Club Network, Inc. in exchange for a review based on the reader’s honest opinion.
