In heaven there will be no more wrongdoing, confession of sin, guilt or shame over any action, or feelings of isolation, loneliness, depression, or discouragement. The absence of negative things will contribute immensely to our sense of joy in heaven. Rejoice in this truth!” Ron Rhodes reiterates in his book, The Little Book About Heaven.

This sixty-four page notecard-sized hardbound book is targeted toward readers who want a quick reminder of heaven and its eternal wonder. With no profanity, violence, or extreme use of negativity, it references mainly the ESV translation of the Bible along with the NIV and NLT versions.

Divided into twenty-eight simplistic chapters, it is designed to be a daily four week devotional about the topic of heaven. Each two page chapter includes a “Big Idea” followed by “What You Need to Know” bullet points, one or two Bible verses, “Fast Facts” with pointers, several “Truths That Transform,” and a well-known author quote to consider.

Topics range from the concept of three heavens, its physical place, occupants, and qualities to more spiritual ideas about the rapture, judgment, sin, death, and the Holy Spirit. There are discussions on the changes of our bodies including if we eat, if our pets will accompany us, and simple explanations of the New Jerusalem, the famous river, and the tree. Quotes are written by preachers and writers such as Alcorn, Graham, Hitchcock, MacArthur, Packer, Spurgeon, and Watson.

One topical example is the many meaningful and joyful activities in heaven. After mentioning our heavenly service is based on our earthly faithfulness and our experience is the fullness of joy reigning with Christ, verses from Luke and Revelation are written out. We will enjoy fellowship with the Triune God, our Christian family and friends, along with Biblical personalities and those from church history. We will not be playing harps but our existence will be filled with variety and purpose. Warren Wiersbe is quoted to say “Faithfulness now is preparation for blessed service then.”

Knowing eternity is before us on this fallen earth, this is a small reminder to focus on our future with our Lord and Savior as we live our daily lives in His Word. For those who have time constraints or need a quick recap with minimal study, this is a to-the-point gift book bringing into remembrance what really is important.
