“The Ark of the Covenant, Caleb. The Temple was built to house the Ark. If the Ark is returned to Jerusalem, then Israel will be obligated to rebuild that Temple. You alone can lead us to the Ark,” Caleb is told in Ted Dekker and Bill Bright’s novel, A Man Called Blessed.

At three hundred and sixty-two pages, this paperback tome is targeted toward Christians and Jews who are looking for the return of the Messiah. With no profanity, overtly sexual scenes, or extreme violence, there is murder with lots of intrigue and a touch of romance. This reader wishes all pronouns related to God were capitalized for reverence.

In this sequel, Israeli leader of the Temple Mount Advocates, David Ben Solomon, and his daughter, Rebecca, have been looking for the Biblical Ark of the Covenant for years. Fifteen years after his wife and five year old daughter are killed by a bus bomb in Jerusalem, Solomon learns from a Falasha Jew that the famous relic is located in a remote monastery in Northern Ethiopia.

When twenty-five year old Rebecca, a respected soldier and archaeologist, leads a group to uncover the Ark in the desert, she gets involved in more than she expected when she meets Caleb, a Christian boy who grew up at the old religious community but is now a strange but fascinating spiritual man who is on a journey to reclaim his first Love.

While sharp-shooter Ismael, an Islamic Arab who has killed more Jews than his comrades, tries to track down Rebecca, Caleb, and the Ark, the three individuals with different religions intersect as they try to out-maneuver, manipulate, and outwit each other.

Knowing that finding of the Ark of the Covenant would bring war to the region because the Temple would have to be rebuilt, Solomon must convince the Israeli Knesset and its leaders to take a stand for their Jewish traditions.

As the riveting storyline progresses through dark underground rooms, across the scorching desert, and among rock formations under a starry sky, both Caleb and Rebecca must find what they are truly searching for and why. Through miracles and divine happenings, they are forced to rely on God for safe haven and redemption.

True to Dekker’s page-turning writing, the concept of locating the Ark of the Covenant and its effect on how the world would react is deciphered in a believable, realistic fashion as it shows the power of the Trinity of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.
