“Now you can make the same Beef Stew with Walnuts that Betty Ford made for former President Gerald Ford, serve Beau Bridges Great Guac with corn chips at your next super bowl game, impress your friends with Ruth Buzzi’s Cheese Blintzes or Dennis Weaver’s Cheese Nut Loaf …,” Mrs. Howard Keel and Linda F. Radke write in their book, Legends in the Kitchen – Celebrity Recipes for a Cause.

At one hundred and fifty pages, this oversized, square paperback book is targeted toward readers who want to collect and make recipes that famous celebrities enjoy. Although the front and back jacket cover are in color, all photographs inside are black and white.

After a foreword by Stefanie Powers, there is a joint acknowledgement and dedication page by both compilers. The table of contents is divided into eight sections of main dishes, vegetables and sides, soups, salads, desserts, appetizers and dips, breads and rolls, and miscellaneous. Besides the title of the recipe, the celebrities name is in bold next to it.

With almost sixty recipes from about fifty celebrities, a photo of the famous star, sometimes with a very short story about the recipe, is on the left side of the page while the recipe with needed ingredients and instructions on the right side. When no photograph is available, there is a quaint saying, usually about food.

At the end of the book is an index identical to the table of contents, not in alphabetical order by personalities or recipe names. Also included is full page article about the publishing company owned by one of the compilers along with an order form.

Famous stars such as Beau Bridges, Dick Clark, Fern Fitzgerald, James Garner, Larry Hagman, John Hart, Bob Hope, Judy Keel, Victoria Principal, Burt Reynolds, Debbie Reynolds, Pat Riley, Karen Valentine, Johnny Western, Betty White, and Andy Williams offer their favorite homemade dish. Recipes such as Jerky Chicken, Pasta Fagioli Al Dante, Cajun Corn Chowder, Ken Curtis’ Cucumber Salad, Amada Blake’s Fresh Lime Pie, Cowboy Caviar, Whole Wheat Banana Bread, and Pat’s Immune Booster sound mouth-watering and delicious.

With a percentage of proceeds going to the Motion Picture and Television Fund that has been serving others since 1921, this is one resource readers who love to cook will enjoy while giving to a worthy cause at the same time.
