“My love comes with limits. I didn’t learn that from You, Lord, so why does my heart restrict its capacity to love other people? When I am afraid of commitment, please give me peace to move forward,” Hope Lyda writes in her book, One-Minute Prayers for Women- Gift Edition.
This two hundred and eighty-eight page book is available in a soft fuchsia pink leather-like cover that is approximately four by six inches, a perfect size for purse, nightstand table, or small shelf. Targeted toward Christian women, its purpose is a quick one-minute devotional prayer to God. A matching fuchsia marker ribbon is included along with several blank pages for notes in the back of the book.
Using the New International Version of the Bible, many of the prayers are taken directly from two of the author’s other books as forty-eight topics are covered. Each topic usually has six one page prayers correlating to it. Initially there is a written out Bible verse at the top of the page under the title and then a two paragraph prayer to the Almighty.
Topics randomly range from Confidence, Dependence, Letting Go, and the Future to Plans, Anticipation, Charity, Speaking Out, and Dancing as the writer expresses a tender, honest petition that aids in helping the reader concentrate on a more intimate relationship with Christ.
One example under Responsibility is titled “Working Toward Maturity” that lists James 1:4 which states “Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” The prayer reads:
“That problem I neglected to give over to You has circled back to me again. While I did not bring it to You, I did toss it into the cosmos, and I though t it would sort of drift forever. Well, it is here now for a return engagement. Lord, help me give this to You once and for all. Then give me strength to learn the lesson of perseverance.
I require so much work, Lord, and yet You continue to provide me with what I need, when I need it. I never lack for anything. I am grateful for the times when You called me to wait, to learn, to push through a situation. You patiently work in my life so that I may become complete in you.”
With the plethora of topics, a woman can flip to any applicable subject and read several prayers to challenge her to get closer to God. This makes a wonderful, thoughtful gift for any woman who yearns to know God better.
