All summer long I’d sought to fit in with the Kensingtons, gain their acceptance, and yet hold on to my Diehl heritage. But all along I’d missed the heritage that truly mattered. And that was as a child of God,” Cora recalls in Lisa T. Bergren’s The Grand Tour Series novel, Glittering Promises.

At four hundred and fifty-two pages, this paperback book is the third in the series set in the early nineteen hundreds about a woman coming of age. With no profanity, mild romantic physical contact and some violence, the historical fiction is targeted toward Christian women.

As the epic series continues of the wealthy young adult children traveling with a “bear” guide through a Grand Tour of Europe, the beautiful Cora Diehl Kensington has learned to love and accept her new-found siblings as they visit historical sites and scenery the past several weeks.

When her controlling, rich biological father, Wallace, now traveling with them, gives her fifty-one percent of the mining rights on her parents’ property in Montana, she becomes the wealthiest woman in America.

However, due to the constant barrage of journalists and paparazzi tracking them, the family has to wait a few more weeks to return to the States. They continue from Venzia to Cinque Terre, Siena, Toscana, Rome and Tivoli to complete their tour, staying at remote villas, while viewing the Shroud of Turin and visiting thermal baths at Saturnia, along with seeing Palatine Hill, the Sistine Chapel, and the Coliseum.

As impressed as Cora is with seeing artworks of Botticelli or Michelangelo to name a few, she feels her relationship with their bear, Will, is “God ordained,” even when the rich Pierre ardently pursues her hand in marriage.

Through the family turmoil, parental dynamics and romantic challenges, Cora must deal with the pressures of her father, society and wealth as Will helps her grow into her new life style. She must learn to wait and trust not only in the Lord in her new financial status, but with family and those who want her attention.

Although the book has ongoing on and off again romantic bantering between several characters, the ending picks up speed as the Kensingtons return to America as better individuals. Bergen completes the entire storyline in a well-thought out manner as the Grand Tour ends in Europe with plenty of room for a future tour of their lives in America.
