What do you want me to know about your personal story, Grandma? What is your heart message for me?” are a couple of the thoughtful questions asked in this fill-in-the-blank book called Tell Me Your Story, Grandmother, illustrated by Susan Wheeler.

At forty-eight pages, this hardbound book with a glossy, embossed cover is a memory book for grandmothers to complete on their own or with the help of their grandchildren as it asks a plethora of questions with lines to write underneath. With minor references to God, prayer and Bible verses, it can be saved down through the ages in honor of a loved one. At the beginning of the book, there is a place to write in who the book is for and the date. The end of the book has a place to write in who created the memory book and the person remembered.

Illustrator Susan Wheeler has creative, charming colored drawings of brown bunny rabbits in different scenarios such as having tea with Grandma, rocking a baby carriage, having a picnic or riding a bike, playing dress up, sharing a meal or sitting on a park bench at night time on the left side of each page.

On the right side of the page are one to five simple questions to ask a grandmother with lines to write in the answers. Questions range from birth to current status and include growing up in school, family life, getting married, having children and leaving a legacy.

Entwined throughout the book are small quotes or proverbs by famous writers and poets such as Alcott, Crosby Dickenson, Longfellow, Scott, Shakespeare, Spurgeon, Thomson, Wiggin and Wordsworth.

Here is a sampling of some of the silly to significant questions asked: Is there a story behind how you got your name? How did you spend a typical Saturday? What sayings were popular when you were young? Who was the biggest story teller in your family? What games did you play as a child? What was a typical breakfast for you? When did you fall in love with Grandpa? What gives you hope today? What do you love about this time of life?

Since nowadays so many grandparents live far away from their grandchildren or are facing dementia, a treasured book such as this is a wonderful way to document a woman’s personal life and what she loved most to be passed down for generations to come.
