If you are struggling with the ‘how-to-do-it’ problems of day-to-day money management and the stress and conflict of being out of control, the basics in this book will provide direction for a lifetime,” Gordon Bennett Bleil states in his second edition of Give Yourself a Raise – How to Have More Money, Less Stress and Financial Freedom.

In this two hundred and thirty-three page paperback book, the author has created an easy-to-adapt system to pay yourself first, live within your means and have no debt. Targeted mainly to young adults starting out in their careers, it can also be a helpful guide to those reaching retirement.

Although the title may suggest the topic is how to get an increase in salary, the book is broken down into two sections: a system for managing money that covers nine chapters and eight chapters involving various topics about finances. There are sidebars in almost every chapter of myth verses fact along with charts and examples yet there is no index for looking up a subject quickly.

The main objective of the book is to get the reader to think – think about what he or she earns, saves and spends. The author gives a ten question Financial Freedom Risk Assessment Quiz to show strengths and weaknesses. Throughout the book are charts to personalize with one’s own data and information, similar to a spread sheet in a bookkeeping class.

After a six point prerequisite list for those who need to read the book and taking the quiz, Bleil discusses objectives, plans, goals, budgets, forecasting, money management using his Freedom Money Management System involving online banking diagrams, debt management, spending strategies and credit cards.

The second half of the book considers retirement investing, understanding risk, government programs, insurance, credit scores, emergency preparedness, and secrets of making money and defining success.

A big supporter of online banking, The writer divulges purchasing tips on buying watches and cell phones while recommending buying a three year old car with low mileage to be debt free. As he correlates paying off debt to plugging holes in a bucket, in no time the bucket can be useful and store more and more money.

For someone who is strongly committed to doing the detailed work filling out charts, this is a true and tried system for obtaining more money, having less stress, reaching financial freedom and being successful in life without having to be extremely wealthy.
