He suddenly realized that through all the secret bunkers, hidden tunnels, and mass murders, the secret was right in his hands. He handed it to Ed and asked, ‘Does this book really say how to prevent the Apocalypse?’” Sean Salazar writes in his novel, The Babylon Prophecy Book 1: Countdown to Doomsday.

At three hundred and ninety-seven pages, this paperback book is the first in a nine-part epic about the end of the world. Targeted toward readers who love suspenseful action, international intrigue, violence and military tactics, it may be best enjoyed by young adult males. With no overtly sex scenes but plenty of profanity, there are innuendos, sometimes campy dialogue and repetition of the storyline. It can easily be put down and picked up later without losing track of the many places, people and situations.

When the gorgeous female CIA fighter pilot, Jess Contreras, tests an onboard x-ray computer program over Iraq, the system fails, ejecting a bomb that detonates near a small town, uncovering a hidden city considered buried during the Biblical flood.

Ex-boyfriend and retired CIA sniper who is currently working as a museum curator, Al Robek is called to canvas the area with Jess where they discover a strange object that highly-trained assassins are trying to steal from them.

With the help of team member, Vance, and British Ed Collins, an aged World War II veteran with boundless energy and worldwide resources at his fingertips who has been tracking the rogue Brotherhood group for decades, the three crisscross around the globe trying to figure out who is triggering the start of Armageddon.

Through numerous underground massive tunnels, undersea caves, endless cisterns and deep tombs, they have to quickly decipher the Holy Script writing they uncover as they connect the dots of inverted pyramids, obelisks, table maps, scrolls, signs and symbols found in Mexico, Bolivia, Lebanon, Israel and America to name a few.

With the aid of the high tech gadgets, goggles and GPS tracking, Al, Jess, Vance and Ed link past historical events to the strange writings and interpretations while blending Biblical stories and characters including Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Freemason and the Vatican artifacts.

Through its twist, turns, back-tracking and explanations, the reader is pulled along trying to learn about the Brotherhood and their obsession with keeping the past buried to determine if they are for good or evil purposes. Although a tedious read, one wonders what will be in the second of nine series of the “End of Days” as the writer continues to translate the Biblical books of Daniel and Revelation in his own way.
