Wisdom from the Oval Office is a three hundred and three page paperback collection by Pierce Word of short sayings from all forty-four presidents of the United States of America. Starting from George Washington to Barack Obama, this is a quick, easy reference for anyone wanting to read topically about statements made by our country’s highest elected officials. With some quoted minor profanity, the book is geared toward middle school age children to adults and could be used as a helpful teaching tool.
Separated into forty chapters, all past and present U.S. presidents have quotes listed by themes that deal with everyday living of their beliefs, stances and viewpoints in regard to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Although one president may not be listed in chapters on the economy, law, money, time or the world, he may be quoted in chapters under the constitution, education, honor, the office or wisdom.
From memorable quotes from Lincoln, FDR, JFK or current President Obama, excerpts by lesser known leaders such as Grant, Hayes and Pierce are noted in the chapters that range from three to twenty-one pages. By not only looking at a chapter’s theme, the ten page index at the end of the book lists each president alphabetically, correlating to all quoted references by theme and page.
As an example, chapter ten is on errors and there are quotes by Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Jackson, Grant, Hoover and Johnson that range from one to three lines long. Yet in chapter twenty-seven on peace, Madison has no listed quote but there are sixteen additional contributors including Lincoln, Eisenhower, Nixon and Bush to name a few. Some presidents have several quotes lines long while others may only have one listed. All quotes list their source with date given.
Touted as the ultimate presidential quote book, this collection is a wonderful resource to remind us not only who our presidents were and when, but what they thought or said throughout their lives publicly and privately as Presidents of the United States of America.
