You are as welcome as flowers in May,” by Charles Macklin.

“A faithful and true friend is a living treasure,” by Robert Hall.

“A real friend sticks closer than a brother,” by The Book of Proverbs.

“A friend may well be reckoned the masterpiece of nature,” by Ralph Waldo Emerson.

“You’re my friend – What a thing friendship is, world without end!” by Robert Browning.

As a tribute toward blooming friendships, Friendship Blooms in the Loveliest Places is a quaint seven by seven inch hardbound book with colorful blue hydrangeas, red poppies, yellow peonies and several butterflies painted on the front and back cover. Artist Terri Conrad displays her detailed floral compositions on all of the approximately fifty pages. To be given as a loving Christian-based gift to a friend, the target audience would be mainly females but also men who enjoy poetry and flowers.

With the opening jacket cover having pink and red roses with a bird on a muted canvas, there is a to, from and date section to fill out for the recipient from the giver along with the Caroline E.S. Norton quote, “We have been friends together in sunshine and in shade.”

As each calming, creative and beautiful floral arrangement graces the pages, there are fanciful highlight box areas with the traditional meaning of a specific flower that matches the artist’s design on that page. It may be the white simplistic magnolia for dignity, nobility and perseverance, the first love meaning for the lilac or the meaning of affection for the morning glory. The elegant painted collections swoop around easy-to read poems and noteworthy statements with blended soft backgrounds of lace, crochet, design papers or canvas.

In addition to the beautiful renditions of different colored roses, violets, poppies, daisies, cherry blossoms, cosmos and snapdragons complete with birds and butterflies, the pages are filled with famous quotes and a few Bible verses. If not an ancient Greek philosopher to an early American statesmen or current day poet, there are short sayings in different colored fonts by Plautus, Epicurus, Dante, Penn, Washington, Emerson, Wordsworth, Thoreau, and Tupper, along with Persian, Russian and Biblical proverbs to name a few.

If one is looking for a tender, loving gift to give a cherished friend to show her or his appreciation, loyalty and friendship, this outwardly beautifully designed painted flower book expresses the inwardly compassionate famous writers have for loved ones.

This book was furnished by Harvest House Publishers for review purposes.
