Norm Goldman,  Publisher & Editor of Bookpleasures.com Interviews Daniel Milstein author of 17 Cents and a Dream: My Incredible Journey from the U.S.S.R. to Living the American Dream and The ABC of Sales: Lessons from a Superstar.

Today, Bookpleasures.com is honored to have as our guest Daniel Milstein author of 17 Cents and a Dream: My Incredible Journey from the U.S.S.R. to Living the American Dream and The ABC of Sales: Lessons from a Superstar.

Norm:

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

Daniel:

To be honest, at first it was just something on my bucket list and then I found that I liked it, a lot.  I did my first book on sales and now with this memoir, 17 Cents & A Dream, I feel like I can't stop. I have at least two more books coming this year.

Norm:

Tell us Daniel, what's the one thing other people always seem to get wrong about you?

Daniel:

I think that people might assume that I'm all about business but when they get to know me, they see that I'm actually a lot of fun. At least I think I am.  Well, people have told me that I am, anyway. But seriously, one of my most favorite parts of my life is being a father.  I don't know if people always get to see the everyday dad stuff I do.  Picking up my daughter, Julie at school, listening to her stories about her day; this is what I live for.

Norm:

If you could switch places with someone famous, who would it be?

Daniel:

I'm pretty blessed now and grateful for the life I lead but if I had to pick one person, it might be Donald Trump. Love him or hate him, he commands respect and his mind is brilliant.

Norm:

What motivated you to write 17 Cents and a Dream: My Incredible Journey from the U.S.S.R. to Living the American Dream?

Daniel:

Good question. I didn't think my life was all that interesting, to be honest, but whenever I would tell friends about things that happened to me, they kept telling me that I had to write it all down. I just feel humbled that anyone's even interested at all and I hope that what I experienced will inspire people.

Norm:

As a follow up to the last question, what purpose do you believe your memoir serves and what matters to you about your memoir?

Daniel:

I think it can help people, at least I hope so.  I mean, if I can inspire someone that whatever they're going through is just temporary, that they can overcome anything, like I did, then I think I've done my job.  Look, there are people who have been through a lot tougher things than me, things I cannot even imagine. But maybe it can help people in some way.

Norm:

What was the time-line between when you decided to write 17 Cents and a Dream and publication? What were the major events along the way?

Daniel:

Well, it's been in my head for awhile, but from the time that I started writing the first sentence, it took me about a year or year and a half.  The major events in writing it were definitely reconnecting with my family and asking them questions about things we hadn't discussed in years, things that we didn't want to discuss but we needed to. It was healthy, almost like therapy, and I think it brought us closer.

Norm:

Does your writing career ever conflict with your career as a business executive?

Daniel:

Other than the time invested, I don't think so. I hope that I can juggle both for awhile; as long as people are interested in what I have to say, I'll keep writing.

Norm:

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

Daniel:

About how much time is invested in it. Some people, including maybe myself before I began writing my first book, thought it would be easy and maybe some people think that it's impossible but I'm here to say, you can do it, if you're willing to put the work into it. I'm probably as busy as any executive and if I could carve the time out, anyone can.

Norm:

Are you working on any books/projects that you would like to share with us? We would love to hear all about them!

Daniel:

Well, 17 Cents & A Dream is my favorite so far but I'm actually working on one now that is a nonfiction book about sales. It's just as much work as 17 Cents & A Dream but maybe not as painful.

Norm:

Where can our readers find out more about you and your books?

Daniel:

They can  Follow My Amazon Page

Norm:

As this interview draws to a close what one question would you have liked me to ask you? Please share your answer.

Daniel:

I love it when people ask me for advice about accomplishing their dreams and to that I say, believe, yes even if you have nothing more to offer the world than your dreams. That's all I had, corny as it may sound: just 17 cents and dream. Anything is possible if you're willing to put the work into it.

Norm:

Thanks once again and good luck with all of your future endeavors
