What do you feel is the most overrated virtue and why?

Jeffery:

Moderation.  It takes the fun out of life.

Joseph:

What is the one thing other people always seem to get wrong about you?

Jeffery:

My sensitivity, which is masked by a confident exterior and a wonderful sense of humor.

Joseph:

If you could change one thing about the world what would it be? How would it change you?

Jeffery:

Tolerance.  We all need a lot more of it.

Joseph:

What pet peeve do you have about other people?

Jeffery:

A lack of loyalty.

Joseph:

Is there any occasion when it’s OK to lie?

Jeffery:

Honesty can be over-rated when a harmless lie can spare someone real pain.

Joseph:

What is your philosophy of writing?

Jeffery:

People love stories and I enjoy telling them, but if what I am writing is not interesting, it doesn’t matter how well crafted or important it seems, you have to let it go and get back to what works.

Joseph:

Is your writing an art or craft or some combination of both?

Jeffery:

The art in writing is the underlying purpose you have in telling a story.  The craft is in constructing it in a way that is entertaining and engaging to the reader.

Joseph:

If you could go back ten years and give yourself one piece of advice what would that advice be?

Jeffery:

Remember all the winning lottery numbers for the upcoming ten years.

Joseph:

Jeffery:

TARGETS OF OPPORTUNITY.  It's a contemporary espionage thriller.

Joseph:

Jeffery:

Readers of suspense, thrillers, mysteries and other genres of compelling fiction.  It has been gratifying that women and men alike have been enjoying the book.

Joseph:

Describe your protagonist and describe the challenges the protagonist needs to overcome and the motivation for overcoming them.

Jeffery:

JORDAN SANDOR is a CIA agent in his late thirties, tall and trim with dark hair, dark eyes and an unshakeable commitment to the security of the united states.  He can be iconoclastic, amusing, and rebellious towards mindless authority, but when he is called to action he is there to do what needs to be done.

Joseph:

Describe your antagonist.

Jeffery:

The villain in TARGETS OF OPPORTUNITY also appeared in the first novel.  He is a Venezuelan loyal to the Chavez regime and a staunch enemy of the united states.  He is suave, talented and ruthless.

Joseph:

What surprising things did you learn while writing this book?

Jeffery:

I am always amazed at the organic aspect of writing a novel, when a plot turn takes me in a direction i never anticipated.

Joseph:

How has your upbringing influenced you writing?

Jeffery:

we were an extremely verbal family, to say the least.  coming from a varied ethnic background—including Italian, German and Irish—we never ran out of things to say or stories to tell.

Joseph:

Where do you live and how does that influence your writing?

Jeffery:

I live in Connecticut but I am never far from New York City, which is still home to me on many levels. The energy there is utterly unique.
