Author Norma
Luciano has written her second book. This time she also illustrated
it as it is children's book called Lovie's Big Day Soaring on Eagle's
Wings which is based in the Pacific Northwest, where she lives.
This
forty one page soft bound over-sized book has a glossy cover with the
front depicting an eagle with a little girl on its back flying over
mountain tops and the same eagle resting alone by a lake with
greenery. There is only one sentence description on the back with no
reviews or author biography. There were no grammar or punctuation
errors noticed but the curvy font used might be hard for a young
child to decipher and how it sometimes interprets capitalization. The
bright and colorful drawings apply to the story line on each page and
are done in colored pencil and crayons with quite a good attention to
detail, especially of animals.
This cute story is about a
young girl named Lovie who lives in the Pacific Northwest near
Seattle with her parents, grandparents and pet cat. Since today is
Lovie's birthday, her mother has a special surprise for her: a trip
to Seward Park. In actuality, Lovie will get to meet and talk with
animals like her mother does. The animals are excited they get to
converse with a new person and hopefully find a new friend.
When
they arrive at the park, Lovie is introduced to a plethora of animals
including ducks, geese, turtles, bunnies and squirrels but instantly
bonds with an eagle named Bold Eagle Wings. Lovie asks how she can
protect and help her new-found friends and the eagle offers her a
ride to show her from his perspective. Putting on invisible goggles
and mittens, Lovie takes flight on the bird's back as they soar high
in the skies, past Seattle and land in a forest by Mount Rainier.
After seeing such beauty of the land, Lovie promises to take good
care of the earth and be kind to all creatures and they fly back home
to be with her family again.
This book is a great read for a
child that loves animals as it not only talks about them, but shows
pictures and reiterates how we should protect them. Luciano did a
wonderful job for her first book of Lovie's Adventure Series and I am
sure many readers will anticipate and look forward to the next one.
