I was not disappointed to discover that the authors of Jen and Barb, Mom Life have put together a book that not only helps new moms reinvent themselves, but can be applied to women of any age and at any point in life. Reading their new book, The Mothers of Reinvention: Reclaim Your Identity...Unleash Your Potential...Love Your Life through the eyes of a grandmother and empty-nester, I found plenty to inspire me to regain my personal goals and vision for my life.

The authors have compiled anecdotes from their own lives as well as stories from others that illustrate some of the frustrations and roadblocks that new mothers often experience. From these accounts, they analyze the problems and offer thoughtful advice. Much of this is through the use of self-survey questions, allowing the reader to do some introspection and really think about what they need and desire in their new role.

When I read the book with my older perspective, I still found many of these exercises and much of their advice to be applicable to me, as I enter a new phase of life which requires adjustment, decisions, and just looking at the road I’m on and the road ahead. I think it is possible for anyone at any point in their life to use tools such as these mothers offer to keep focused. It’s a lot like having a roadmap handy on a car trip.

The one criticism I have of the book is that the final chapter, which is entitled , “Reinvent You: The ten-Step Guide to Loving Your Life,” isn’t longer. I think the authors might have made this a little meatier, given the abundance of life stories they had to draw on in the rest of the book.

Also, there do not seem to be many links to resources. In this Internet-dependent society, there are myriad blogs, websites, and other linkable resources that apply to the topics in the book, and it might have been beneficial to include some of them for readers to access. Their own website has several links, but the reader has to first get to their site. A simple list of resources as an appendix might have helped.

Overall, the conversational style of the book was warm and inviting.
