In Grandma’s Attic and its sequel More Stories from Grandma’s Attic are a collection of timeless stories with valuable lessons and charm.  Arleta, as a little girl, recalls the many stories passed onto her by her grandmother.  The stories about grandma’s life as a child are engaging and special.  With every story Grandma tells is an object
that sparks a memory or an adventure to explore.  While finding out how squares from a quilt taught her grandma of lessons in trust, pride and funny family memories.  A button sparks a reminder of a lesson in honesty.  Everyday things, like a dog taking a slipper, can even teach grandma new lessons, such as not being quick to blame.

These stories have not changed from the wonderful memories I have of reading them as a child.  Though they are now re-published for a new generation they have simple, timeless stories that can remind the reader of what it’s like to be a child looking up to your grandma, a child learning lessons of life or an adult reflecting on days gone by, sharing wisdom and watching children grow.  The book is written for children and is a great book for little girls!  The lessons are wonderful.  The stories are enchanting, full of mystery and surprise.  Children will read in wonderment as they discover the stories that hold such vast differences to our modern and technological world.

I love reading this book!  I was amazed at how many of the stories I remembered from Reading the books as a child.  I loved the new appreciation I found in these stories.  I was able to view them through new eyes now that I have a family or my own and more life experience.  Each treasure or memento from grandma’s attic has a lesson or moral.  The messages of growing up and living in a way that pleases God, treats others kindly and inspires honesty, kindness and friendship.  The books are great for children age’s five to nine, but are also for adults who might want a quick and delightful reminder of days gone by.  They are worth the time and the read.
