The authors are publishers of The Summit Murder Mystery Series featuring Scott Devlon, teacher and adventurer, who also works sometimes for the Government of the United States.
Scott is getting ready to climb Puncak Jaya, one of the world's Seven Summits.  The mountain is located in one of the most primitive locales in world, is 16,024 feet above sea level near Papua on the island of New Guinea.  This is one of the most dangerous and repellent areas on earth.  It is home to cannibals and headhunters and readers will hear about both.

In the previous Summit Murders (Murder on Everest, Elbrus and Mt. McKinley) the story has started, almost from the first page, at the foot of each Mountain.  The characters are all named and you know who's who but, there is not a lot of prose before the climb begins.  Not so with this volume.  Before the climb starts you are treated to attacks by natives and some of the soldiers guarding the climbers are killed along with falls into a raging river, illness and sicknessess that you won't soon forget.  On this lonely island, isolated from most humans Scott tries to cut his way through a rain forest that is full of deadly disease-carrying insects and his trouble takes him to the mountain of Puncak Jaya where he will find killing, nerve-wracking chases, gold miners who are trying to beat out other gold miners to be the only mine in the area and tribes of natives who don't fight fair (poisoned arrow tips along with some guns that really shouldn't be
there as they are too new), and some of the most breathtaking scenery that you can imagine.  Readers would never imagine that places that are usually tropical on the edge of the Pacific Ocean could be ice covered.

I have read and reviewed the previous books and have to say that Murder on Puncak Jaya is definitely NOT like any of the others.  It includes much more of a back story on the participants and a lot more adventure.  (Some of the murder and mayhem I could have lived without) but, it was necessary to the story.  The climb didn't start until the middle of the book but, this book was a very scary and dangerous trek through some of the most beautiful and horrible at the same time, areas in the world.

Also, this time, the authors have included an overview of each mountain included in the Seven Summits, where they are located and the people that climbed them.  An extremely interesting read and I'm looking forward to Murder on Aconcagua to be released in the Winter of 2012.

In this isolated land, Devlon begins by slashing his way through a primordial jungle teaming with exotic and deadly wildlife. His journey takes him to the icy precipice of Puncak Jaya - only to find murder. Harrowing chases, rogue gold miners, prehistoric tribal rites converge to deliver non-stop adventure and a breathtaking climax atop the Pacific Rim. Murder on Puncak Jaya is like no other action book and is the fourth thrilling saga in the Summit Murder Mystery Series.
