Brian Nowak has been missing for 15 years. His body was never found. His family claimed he went out for cigarettes and never returned. The case was closed. Constable “Moonlight” Molly Smith and Constable Adam Tocek are called to search for a five-year-old boy named Jamie missing from a wilderness campsite.  While searching for Jamie, Molly and Adam uncover human remains. Paul Keller was the lead detective on the case fifteen years ago. Hoping to find out what really happened to Brian, he reopens the case.

Nicky Nowak is a hooker and her brother Kyle an artist. Returning home, Nicky hopes to find out what happened to her family and reconnect with her childhood friend, Molly. As the investigation continues, more body parts are uncovered. Nicky was not only a hooker but also a user. Her connection and pimp Joey arrives in Trafalgar hoping to keep her in line.  Meeting him in the park he’s approached by several young teenage girls. Finding them on facebook and friending them was easy for this man. Luring them into his web, even easier. Enticing them to leave home with the promise of fame and money, causes one Chinese teen to run away from home and another to help her do it. His real motive: Prostitution. Many children whose parents have too many strict controls over them often look for ways to rebel as May did.

Hoping to find the solution to her unhappy life, she enlists the help of one friend, and winds up missing. As Detective Ray Lopez investigates her disappearance, he learns more about his own daughter, social networking and teenagers.

As the words of one officer are heeded the investigation moves in another direction the truth and why Brian was murdered comes out but will the killer face murder charges? Will they stick? Who else was involved and why did they send the police on a chase that took them more than 15 years to reach the finish line? What does happen to May? Will they find her before it’s too late? Added to the story is Molly’s conflict with being Nicky’s friend and her mother’s newfound friendship with Paul Keller a married police officer whose wife left him. What will happen between them and what will the end result be?

There are many issues brought up in this book. One is teenage prostitution and the other social networking. Parents need to monitor what their children are doing on the net and the sites that they are going on. They need to monitor who their friends are and check out new ones before they are permitted to friend them as well as place parent controls on sites that children should not be allowed on.

Friendships are tested and loyalties are broken as two childhood friends learn that nothing remains forever including friendship. An ending that will surprise the reader and a conclusion you will not expect. One police department that pulls out all the stops to solve a 15-year-old cold case. One community that learns many lessons about the people that live there with an ending that will rock the inner core of this closely knit community. Molly and Nicky’s friendship will come full circle and you will be surprised at the end result. Will Nicky remain in town or will she go back to the only life she knows? Why does she want Molly’s friendship and approval? What happens when she tries to come between Adam and Molly testing his loyalty to her?

Characters that are well defined and events easily followed. A plot that is fast paced and filled with twists, turns and surprises that keep the reader focused and wanting more. Molly Smith is definitely a great character that keeps her cool in difficult situations and is respected by her bosses and co-workers. I would not be surprised if she is promoted soon in this author’s next novel. She is smart, sassy and does not back down. What is in store for the rest of the residents living in Trafalgar when all is said and done, we’ll have to wait for Book 6 in the series to find out.
