Reading ‘Tasting Rain’ is like sitting down with your best friend and having a good old gossip about life.  This is a very honest and ‘from the heart’ memoir. I often found myself engrossed in Kim Malchuk’s story, and there are many thought provoking passages in the book.  It’s a moving, spiritual, and passionate story about Kim’s life, heartbreaking at times.  Kim Malchuk is a survivor, and her story will give hope to many people who may be suffering the loss of a partner or facing any other problem in their life that seems insurmountable.

Although I did not agree with all of Kim’s philosophies about life, I found her story inspirational; she is a woman who has faced many struggles in life, but has come out of it all smiling and positive.  She is definitely a shining example of a positive thinker who faces life’s hurdles with courage.  The message in this book is that anyone can change the direction of their life by changing the way they think about things.  ‘Tasting Rain’ explains how when individuals go through any type of trauma or dramatic change in their life, they too will change in some way.  Kim’s message is that we should embrace the change and use it as a life lesson.  Her story shows that sometimes it’s better for us to go back to basics and live a simpler life instead of complicating it for ourselves and then perhaps missing out on many wonderful experiences.

Kim began writing journals as a way of dealing with her pain and expressing her feelings about her husband’s battle with cancer, and she later used those journals to write her memoir in an attempt to help others.  It’s an interesting read. I would recommend it to anyone who likes reading memoirs, and anyone who feels that their life lacks purpose or direction.  Kim’s belief is that dreams can come true, and she relates examples from her own life to prove the point.  This is one woman’s story of love, loss, acceptance, and survival.  Ultimately, Kim’s book reminds us that we are in control of our lives to the extent that we can make choices about how we deal with different situations, and we can decide how we move forward.  This book is one of those books that leaves you with a very positive feeling at the end.  Well worth reading.
