Imagine this scenario. You have just discovered a gold mine. It’s close to the surface, easily accessible, and the likelihood of your success from mining its resources is high. Very high. Questions emerge: Do you pan for the gold? Do you mine it? Do you share information about its location with others?

That’s what this review is all about - sharing news of my recent panning/mining-for-gold experience and sharing the location of the goldmine … an author’s goldmine!

If you’re an author, a wanna-be author, a self-published author, a soon-to-be-traditionally-published author, you’ll find “Promote Like a Pro” to be a veritable treasure trove. Skim the surface and you’ll discover generalities about promoting your book. Dig deeper and you’ll discover nuggets of wisdom embedded in the chapters written by author Linda Radke and various marketing/publishing professionals.

Even though this book is primarily aimed at self-publishing authors, as a soon-to-be-published-by-an- established-company author (six weeks from now!) who could use help promoting my book, I opened “Promote Like a Pro,” eager to learn. The back cover notes that the book is for those who “cannot afford public-relations and marketing specialists.” That’s me. So, my question for the book was simple: “What can I do without cost to “get the buzz out” about my book “Soulistry-Artistry of the Soul: Creative Ways to Nurture Your Spirituality.”

Self-promotion takes courage and in the first chapter of her book, Radke writes “This is not going to be an easy trip.” Understatement! Including the title of my own book in this review was anything but easy! At first I included it. Then I deleted it. Then I included it. Then I deleted it. Self-publicity doesn’t come easily to me, but with the guidance of the author of “Promote Like a Pro: Small Budget, Big Show” and her excellent panel of contributors, confidence is slowly beginning to emerge. Taking Radke’s advice (“To sell it, you need to get the word out that you’ve got a good book that deserves to be read”) to heart, I set about putting it into practice.

Radke was right – I couldn’t wait until I reached the end of her book before trying some of the suggestions … a link to the Soulistry website in my email signature; a Soulistry-Artistry of the Soul page on Facebook; a Soulistry Twitter account; and inclusion of the name of my book’s title in this review.

Promote Like a Pro has given me courage. And, it has been instructive on many levels. If you want to know the difference between marketing and publicity; learn the essentials of a publicity campaign; discover how to pitch to broadcasters; are curious how public speaking can be used to your advantage; wonder how to build an effective marketing plan, get your book reviewed, arrange for your own newspaper column, get free tv publicity, promote yourself on radio shows without leaving home, and/or market your book on the internet – in other words, how to make the most of every opportunity to publicize your book – then this is the book for you.

I’ve discovered a gold mine!  You will, too when you read “Promote Like a Pro.”
