A
beautifully illustrated children’s book. The characters, The
Animazings are six African animals dressed like superheroes: a
zebra, bat, hippopotamus, elephant, giraffe, and bull. In this book
The Animazings rescue a rhinoceros who has been taken by poachers.
The rescued animal then joins their ranks as a superhero. Each
character is introduced individually as the story unfolds, and each
one has a special ‘power’ that can be put to use to help save the
rhino. For example there is ‘Elephantastic’, the elephant,
who has a mighty trunk, and ‘Hippofabulous’, the hippopotamus,
who is a great swimmer, and 'Acrobat', the bat, who flies with
amazing speed. I am sure children would enjoy looking at the pictures
and be entertained and kept interested by this delightful fast-moving
adventure story.
I love the way the story is told in rhyme, which,
for a child, I’m sure would make it even more fun to read. At
the end of the book there is a song that The Animazings sing
together, which I am sure young children will enjoy making up a tune
to.
Bruce Lawley has created a group of wonderful characters that
children can fall in love with. It’s a very colourful book,
which will stimulate a young child’s mind. It would be
suitable for reading to younger children, and I’m sure older
children would enjoy reading the story themselves.
There is a lot
of potential, with this story and the characters, for creating a
series, either in book form where the characters could go on to take
part in more exciting adventures, or as a children’s TV series.
I can also imagine each of the fabulous characters being made into
soft toys for children.
An imaginative and educational story,
brought to life with many colourful illustrations. It would
make a perfect gift for a young child, the target age range being 2-6
years old.
